Brian Dowling told to lay off fake tan for new series of Big Brother

Show bosses told the presenter that the entire show is being revamped, so he has to change his look too.

The host said: “They are changing the look this year and it was suggested I could wear jeans. I said I would love to wear jeans.

“They then said, ‘You looked really brown.’ So I have been told to be less Essex, more Chelsea. How that is relevant to the show I don’t know but, yeah, I have to look less brown.”

Meanwhile. the former flight attendant says he is still recovering from being mugged at knifepoint in London in March.

Hoodies dragged him off a street into an alley and held a blade to his throat before fleeing with his mobile and £100.

The star â€" who won Big Brother’s second series in 2001 â€" said: “Even now I don’t go out when it is dark on my own. When it happened I left the lights on and I was crying for my mum. I felt like a bit of a pussy.

“Even now, though, during the daytime when I’m on the Tube, people look at me and I get freaked out.”

Brian recently signed a deal to keep hosting Big Brother, which moved from Channel 4 to 5 last year, for the next two years.

The latest series kicks off on June 5. It will be followed straight away by a new celebrity version of the show.

Brian said: “It is brilliant that Big Brother still has such a strong following.”
