Broke Phil, 48, who played bookie Des Barnes for eight years, racked up a huge tax bill he could not pay off.
His troubles began when he went to Africa to direct a film he partly funded before it went bust.
The skint actor, who lives in Bury, Greater Manchester, said: âIt has been a difficult time.
âThree-and-a-half years is a long time to fund myself without any income.
âI have had to get money from family and friends.â
Last week we revealed how his co-star Beverley Callard, barmaid Liz McDonald, was served with a bankruptcy order over unpaid tax.
