The former X Factor favourite is reportedly being eyed up for a spot on the huge telly talent show.
The New York Post has said that executives from producers Fremantle and 19 Entertainment had reached out to Cheryl on Monday to see if she would be interested in joining.
They told how "sources" had revealed the singer could be brought in alongside judge Jennifer Lopez or to replace her if she jumps ship.
Cheryl, 28, and J-Lo star in new movie What to Expect When Youâre Expecting together.
Geordie lass Cheryl has a cameo role in the flick playing, what else, a TV talent show judge.

Actress and singer J-Lo, 42, has said she may not return to American Idol this year.
She told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres: "Now this is my second year - I don't know if I can go for a third year. I miss doing other things.
"It really does lock you down, which was nice the first year with the babies being three, but now they're getting more mobile, they're about to go into school ... so I just don't know."

Girls Aloud star Cheryl was dumped from the US X Factor during the auditions stage after apparently failing to please Fox telly chiefs.
The fuming brunette then refused to return to the British version of the show, meaning her judging days appeared over for good.
If the latest rumours are true Cheryl, a relative unknown in America, would join current judges Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson on the panel.
