We're Absolutely Fabulous, says Jennifer Saunders

We're Absolutely Fabulous, says Jennifer Saunders

The actress, 53, who won Female Performance In A Comedy Programme at the BAFTAs last night, said of people who complain about appearances from stars: "Everyone goes: 'Oh your special guests and your famous people and all that'.

"I'd rather it was just us. It's much funnier that way."

A trio of comeback specials were made last year, including a Christmas special and a New Year episode. Emma Bunton, Kate Moss and Lulu made hilarious cameos.

And speaking backstage at the ceremony, Jennifer, who has battled breast cancer, said that the next instalment of the show, which also stars Joanna Lumley, is ready to be aired a week before the Olympic Games.

Talking about bringing back the much-loved comedy, she said: "It felt it was right to bring it back because there was a different feel in the world, and we thought let's see what they're doing now."

Jennifer also revealed that a movie is planned, if the cast can all free their diaries at the same time.

She said: "We might make a film next year. It's so hard to get everybody together for that amount of time, but hopefully..."

And getting back into character as Edina Monsoon wasn't too much of a challenge for the talented star.

Jennifer said: "She's such a part of me anyway that actually it's hard to shake her off."

And talking about what Eddy would have been up to if she had it been her at the ceremony, she joked: "She'd never make it here. She'd be drunk in the bar. It would have been far too exciting for her."

Meanwhile Brendan O'Carroll confirmed that his show Mrs Brown's Boys which won the gong for Situation Comedy, will be made into a film.

He said: "I haven't written it yet. That's what success does, they give you money and say 'Whatever you think'."

And he quipped: "So I've taken the money."

Brendan said not to expect any big Hollywood cameos in the feature-length film.

But guffawed with laughter as he joked: "If Eddie Murphy wants to be in it, who's going to stop him? He can play my sister."
