THIS Morning agony aunt Denise Robertson has described how she helped save a woman who tried to commit suicide during a radio phone-in.
Denise, who has been dishing out advice from the This Morning sofa for more than 20 years, told Desert Island Discs host Kirsty Young it made her realise the âresponsibilityâ of being an agony aunt.
Speaking on todayâs show on Radio 4, she said: âThat was one of the scariest moments of my life. Iâm doing a phone-in and this voice comes through, âI have taken a lethal dose of pills. I canât go onâ.
Thereâs a baby crying in the background and she said, âIâm not going to tell you where I am until I know itâs too late for you to do anything but then I want you to come and take my babyâ.â
Denise explained how her boss tracked down the womanâs doctor who persuaded the woman to change her mind.
She said: âThat was the moment when the fearful responsibility of being an agony aunt really hit me for the first time.â
