Gordon Ramsay to teach cookery in women’s jail after success of Gordon Behind Bars

Gordon Ramsay to teach cookery in women’s jail after success of Gordon Behind Bars

GORDON RAMSAY is set to head back to prison for a second telly show â€" this time in a FEMALE jail.

The chef is currently on Channel 4 in new series Gordon Behind Bars, in which he teaches male lags how to cook and set up a business.

The show, filmed at Brixton Prison in south London, pulled in 2.9million viewers for its launch on Tuesday, thrilling Gordon and Channel 4 bosses.

And despite having a rough time during filming, which saw him being barracked by lags and having to stop a fight, the fiery TV chef says he is up for doing it all over again.

Gordon told TV Biz he was now planning a second series set in a women’s jail and that he was also looking at returning to Brixton to see how the prison business â€" the Bad Boys’ Bakery â€" is getting on.

The firm make cakes and wraps which now sell to 11 branches of Caffe Nero in London and there are plans to roll their products out across the rest of the country.

Gordon said: “There is an idea about going into a ladies’ prison which will be interesting. And I would definitely go back to Brixton.”

The chef said he had also got the support of David Cameron for his campaign to get more prisoners working. He presented his ideas to the Prime Minister when the pair met recently at an event organised by children’s charity Ray Of Sunshine, which Gordon is an ambassador for.

Gordon said: “We had a charity gig recently for Ray Of Sunshine where we got to see David Cameron.

“He asked how it was going and I said that it was tough and that I found it harder than I had expected.

“We have sent the business plan in and are following everything up because it needs supporting.”

He added: “Think of all of those people in prison and barely ten per cent are getting anywhere near work.

“I hate that negative energy and whenever I have had a setback in life I have turned it around and focused on how I can turn this huge negative into something positive.

“I believe there are massive missed opportunities in prisons.”

The 25-year-old got the boot while fellow nominee Deana Uppal was saved and left to a chorus of boos from the audience.

Speaking to BB host Brian Dowling afterwards, she said: “I think I always expected it.

“Coming on here was a massive risk for me. I knew having someone who’s in the public eye as a partner, some people don’t like it.

“I could have been gone in the second week, so for me it’s been like a month in there.”

Lydia, who gave singer fiancé Andy Scott-Lee a big smooch as she left the house, also spoke about playing up to the cameras.

She said: “I don’t think you can be the real person in there. It’s so intense, it’s so petty, you can’t be like you are in the outside world.

“I was always an easy target. I didn’t feel like I could relax — I was obviously a vulnerable target.”

Lydia, who has previously been romantically linked to stars including Mickey Rourke and Jack Osbourne, said she would like to see Conor McIntyre get the chop next.

Alesha Dixon says she is best pals with Amanda Holden after judging on Britain’s Got Talent

While saucy comic David Walliams’ jokey flirting with fellow judge Simon Cowell grabbed headlines, off-screen, Amanda and Alesha were quietly becoming firm friends.

Alesha said: “Simon and David had the bromance but Amanda and I are just as close, maybe closer. We’re 100 per cent friends.”

And the singer confirmed that although next year’s contracts are yet to be signed, all four judges will return for next year’s BGT.

Alesha said: “Simon’s really open about not wanting to change the panel. We all want to come back and can’t wait for 2013.”

    Simon Cowell and David Walliams

Alesha was poached by Simon from Strictly Come Dancing.

On the BBC show she had to fight for acceptance, having replaced Arlene Phillips. But on BGT, Alesha was an instant hit.

She was relieved at the warm welcome, especially from Amanda.

Alesha said: “On BGT prior to the live shows, all the focus was on David and Simon’s lovely bromance but when the live shows happened you could see Amanda and I genuinely got on really well.

“I had respect for Amanda before I met her and she was so welcoming to David and me.

Amanda Holden “She took me out for coffee and we had a good chinwag and we both got on. We’re just grateful for doing something we both enjoy.”

Unlike on The X Factor, where the female judges have had endless wardrobe competitions, Amanda and Alesha planned their outfits together â€" with a little help from their stylists of course.

Alesha said: “Amanda is so straight talking, I love that about her and she’s good fun.”

While Alesha has a background in music, first with band Mis-Teeq then as a solo artist, she is glad Simon picked her for BGT over The X Factor.

She said: “I love being on BGT. I watch X Factor and I’m a fan but it’s a completely different show because on the X Factor the judges are competing against one another so there is bound to be that bit of tension, whereas we’re in it together as a team.”

With Simon currently in LA filming X Factor USA, Alesha has grown closer to David too. So much so they’ve joined the official Show Your Support Olympics campaign together.

Alesha says: “There is this natural chemistry there and that’s all you can wish for.

“I had a nice dinner with Amanda and David the other week. We try to keep in touch when the show’s not on because we all really get on. David isn’t always naughty â€" he was quite chilled when we went out for dinner, but he’s always witty and making jokes. He’s such a good guy and such great value.”

    Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon

Alesha is looking forward to the Olympics. She said: “I can’t wait, I’m such a massive sports fan. I can’t wait to see the track and field events, that’s my favourite part.

“It’s a really strong year for this country.

“BGT was an amazing start to the summer, then the Diamond Jubilee, now the Olympics are coming... ”

Alesha is showing her support with the limited-edition supporters’ scarf â€" available to buy now from the official Olympic clothing and homeware supplier, Next, in store or online at next.co.uk.

YLE will produce events in the Olympic Stadium as part of a deal with the International Olympic Committee.

The BBC will have little part to play in the stadium, apart from providing the odd camera to focus on British competitors.

Because of the size of the Games, broadcasters from different countries will produce different sports on behalf of the IOC’s Madrid-based company, Olympic Broadcasting Services.

The Beeb will be in charge of sports such as rowing, boxing and tennis.

Can Atkins-style diets raise heart attack risk for women? Eating high levels of protein can increase chance by a quarter

Unbalanced diet: Women with diets low in carbohydrate but high in protein were found to be more at risk from heart attacks

Unbalanced diet: Women with diets low in carbohydrate but high in protein were found to be more at risk from heart attacks

Women on the Atkins-style diet could be in danger of heart attacks and strokes later in life, claim researchers.

They found that regularly eating large amounts of protein but very little carbohydrate increases the risk by more than a quarter.

Experts are now urging women to follow a balanced diet rather than trying to cut out potatoes, bread, rice and pasta.

Researchers from Greece and Sweden carried out a 15-year study on 43,400 women aged 30 to 49.

Those whose diets were low in carbohydrate but high in protein were found to be 28 per cent more at risk from heart attacks and strokes.

But the researchers, based at the University of Athens, said the likelihood that they would fall victim was still very small.

If 10,000 women followed the Atkins-style diet, an extra five would be likely to suffer a stroke or heart attack compared to another 10,000 women eating normally.

Victoria Taylor, senio r dietitian at the British Heart Foundation, said: ‘This study highlights the need for us to achieve balance in our diets.

'Don’t feel you have to choose between carbohydrates or protein. Eating a mixture of all food groups, rather than cutting anything out completely, will help you to stay healthy inside and out.

Full English? A diet high in protein but low in carbohydrates can play havoc with cholesterol levels, say scientists

Full English? A diet high in protein but low in carbohydrates can play havoc with cholesterol levels, say scientists

‘Try and include lean proteins and low-fat dairy, wholegrain and high fibre carbohydrates, along with lots of fruit and veg and small amounts of healthy fats.

‘Enjoying all of these in a balanced way is far better for your heart and your waistline than trying to stick to a strict diet.’

The study is published on the British Medical Journal’s website.

A typical Atkins-style diet plan consists of eggs and bacon for breakfast, a chicken salad for lunch and fish and broccoli for dinner.

A spokesman for the Atkins diet said: 'To suggest this is a report on an 'Atkins-style' diet is misleading. This observational study simply states that 'fewer carbs' and 'higher protein' intake was associated with higher incidence of heart disease. In fact, Atkins is a nutritional strategy which stresses nutrient-dense carbohydrates as part of a balanced eating plan.'

The diet was devised by American heart specialist Robert Atkins, who died aged 72, in 2003.

Another silly study, Atkins involves eating fish for protein, fish oil stops heart attacks, and strokes. When you cook meat at high temperatures, frying etc, you have to sprinkle on the herb rosemary while you are cooking your meat, as it stops acrylamides forming which cause cancer, heart problems, and stroke. And while we are there, were all these people using olive oil which is good for the heart, we are not told are we ?

Quite why anyone would imagine that a diet low in fruit and vegetables and high in saturated fat (and with too much protein) could possibly be healthy is entirely beyond me. - Peter Freemantle, London, 27/06/2012 08:01 Erm. News flash. We evolved eating this way. We wouldn't be here without saturated fat. That's why 50% of breast milk is saturated fat. Our brain needs it. Research is starting to suggest that the currently popular low fat diets are instrumental in the ongoing rise in Alzheimer's and motor neurone issues in younger and younger people.

. Insulin levels only raise when sugar is taken. We consume wholegrain carbs. - ASH PEACE, Scotland, 27/06/2012 11:45 whole wheat and white bread have essentially the same impact on blood sugar, which is to say you might as well be eating a big spoonful of sugar. Sorry to burst your bubble there. Google it if you don't believe me.

The research wasn't about Atkins or any specific diet, but about how the ratio of protein to carbohydrate in the diet affects cardiovascular health in women. The connection with Atkins is a journalistic invention.

I am following a healthy low fat mod carbs, mod protein diet. I have lost 2 stone 3lbs in 4 months. Everything in moderation - that is the key:)

Before you get all defensive about the Atkins diet, read the article . "If 10,000 women followed the Atkins diet, an extra five would be likely to suffer a stroke or heart attack" - that's a massive 0.05% increase. So don't sweat it. Eating lots of protein undeniably reduces the appetite and will help to reduce weight, that's it - that's the Atkins diet - simple and effective.Eat the high protein stuff then eat what you like because you won't feel hungry anyway - if people wish to punish themselves by not eating Carbohydrates then far be it from me to laugh at them. :-))

I have the Atkin's book right here and that is NOT a typical diet plan. It focuses on vegetables and protein for 3 meals and two snacks for two weeks then adds carbohydrates back slowly. People have different carbohydrate tolerance levels so your maintanence level of carbohydrates is specific to you. Fried foods are NOT part of the new Atkins btw!

Does it only affect women?- Ken, Birmingham, 27/6/2012 1:24...In most cases yes, all because women tend to be more weight conscious to want to look petite, unlike men who just want to look average.

What 'risk factor' are they referring to? If its cholesterol then this is nonsense. Researchers at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology looked at 52,087 individuals between the ages of 20 and 74. After adjusting for factors like age, smoking and blood pressure, researchers found women with high cholesterol (more than 270 mg/dl) had a 28 percent lower mortality risk than women with low cholesterol (under 193 mg/dl). Risk for heart disease, cardiac arrest and stroke also declined as cholesterol levels rose.

Who funded this study I wonder?? Because it is absolute nonsense!!!! If we NEEDED to eat bread, pasta, rice and potatoes to protect our hearts, we wouldn't bl00dy be here as our ancestors had no access to these foods and we would have died out long ago. Modern, mass produced versions of these food are not just unnecessary in the human diet, modern production methods mean they are absolute POISONS. My family are considerably healthier since adopting a low carb/high fat diet.

A Channel 4 rep said: "We're constantly looking at what's best for our content across the portfolio of channels and while we were very happy with New Girl's performance on C4, we saw that the profile of New Girl was skewing significantly younger than the C4 slot average and was more in line with the E4 target demographic.

Phillip Schofield hits out in Holly Twitter pic row

Phillip Schofield hits out in Holly Twitter pic row

The presenter blasted: "I swear there can be no greater force against all womankind than Liz Jones. She is inconsistent, bitter, nasty and unhinged."

His angry tweet followed an article in the Daily Mail by reporter Jones.

She had taken offence to a make-up free picture Holly had posted of herself on Twitter on Sunday.

Holly had uploaded the snap of her wearing her nightie at home, and added: "Lunch done,Me however still in nightie! Makeup!x."

But Jones claimed the pic was "anti-feminist" and dubbed Holly a "playground bully".

She wrote: "Holly Willoughby - who appears on TV with eyelashes so long they probably contribute to the El Nino effect and lips so red and plumptious she resembles a drag queen - this week posted a picture online to prove she doesn't really need all that artifice, so dewy is she, with such teeny, tiny pores.

    Phillip Schofield

"I wager these supposedly bare-faced snaps are not what they seem: their lashes have probably been dyed and enhanced with extensions, brows tinted, skin tanned.

"That luscious, artfully tousled hair has been dyed a fetching shade, kept in perfect condition - and often supplemented with extensions.

"Not admitting all the effort that goes into looking so radiant and 'bare-faced', not showing us the join, as it were, is tantamount to denying you have had a facelift, wear Spanx, or have a personal trainer."

She later added: "My feeling is that not wearing make-up is in fact anti-feminist. Women like Holly ... are saying to the rest of us: I am too busy to wear make-up at home.

"I am not vain, or frivolous, I am DEEP. My husband loves me for who I am: naturally gorgeous.

"These women are the ultimate playground bullies: they know men hate make-up (my husband used to say I was like a moth, leaving dark smudges on him in my wake), so they pretend they need no help.

"I think it’s rude to bare your face to the world, although I’m sure an army of super-busy mummies will post comments saying they never wear even a slick of Vaseline on their lips, so adored are they by their husband and children, so packed their lives, so bright their brains....

"Putting on make-up is a part of being a woman. It’s all about degree, isn’t it? Maybe tweezing the chin hairs, but foregoing the Hollywood bikini wax.

"And, yes, perhaps instead of trowelling on make-up what I really need is to shore up my ego. I should be a bit braver, and hide less behind a mask.

"But unlike the Hollys ..., the rest of us have the humility to admit we need a little bit of help."
