The opera star, 31, came second after American Football star Donald Driver but said of her experience on the show: "It's been an absolute dream.”

The singer's professional dancing partner Mark Ballas called her "an angel" during the finale of the hit programme.

Welsh wonder Katherine tweeted: “Being runner up on DWTS feels pretty amazing...Thanku to all who voted to put us 2nd! I never would have thought this possible at the start!”

Earlier in the day she told fans how grateful she was for their support.

She wrote: “Not long til the results... Whatever happens, just want to thanku for all your love and support - u couldn't have been more wonderful!

"And of course,no matter what, a humongous Thanku to my partner @MarkBallas for his patience,hard work above all, great sense of humour!"

NFL star Donald, 37, lifted the trophy with partner Peta Murgatroyd. After winning, he exclaimed: “Amazing. This is awesome. Thank you so much!”

In a VT before her final performance, Katherine welled up and said: “It’s just been an amazing time and I’ve loved every minute of it.”
