The bank worker, who was on BB10 in 2009, suffered from lupus throughout her life, although her cause of death is unknown.

Davina McCall paid tribute to her on Twitter, posting the message: "That's really sad. My thoughts are with her family."

And former fellow housemates from her series added messages of condolence.

Series winner Sophie Reade wrote: "Devastated to hear the news about sophia, such an amazing lady and a pleasure to known her. Cant believe it #RIP."

While another former housemate Karly Ashworth wrote: "#RIP to Sophia Brown who was also on my series of Big Brother. Such sad news. My thoughts are with her family and friends."

And Rodrigo Lopes said: "I'm devastated. I don't know what to say... I'm so glad to have met you, Sophia... Your 'ok.. wow' will be unforgettable. I will always have you in my heart."

Big Brother narrator Marcus Bentley also paid tribute: "Such very sad news about BB 10 housemate Sophia Brown - god bless Sophia xx."

Bubbly Sophia, from London, was voted into the Big Brother house on Day Four and was evicted with 91.2 per cent of the public vote just five days later.

In her profile for the show she described herself as 'fun, fierce and feisty' and said that being diagnosed with auto-immune disease Lupus as a child had given her a positive attitude.
