Wild At Heart star Stephen Tompkinson lands first lead movie role as a copper in Harrigan

The seventh series of Wild At Heart, which ended last month, was the last. But fans can look forward to a two-hour special early next year.

Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival, Stephen said: “Now and again people need a change and it was our turn to make way for something else.

“We’re doing a final hurrah, which may go out on New Year’s Day, as a way to say goodbye to it. I’m looking forward to going back to South Africa in August for filming. The team have been like a big family.”

DCI Banks star Stephen is in Cannes to promote new movie Harrigan, in which he plays a Seventies cop cleaning up a crime-ridden sink estate in the North East. He reckons the drama is like an old-fashioned western, saying it is “more like High Noon than The Sweeney”.

DRAGONS’ Den battleaxe Hilary Devey has revealed she’d like a career in politics. The shoulder pad-wearing telly star admitted she would love to put her hat in the ring over government policy.

But she doesn’t believe she would be liked by any of her peers.

She said: “I’d love to be in politics. It’s probably my next career move. I tell you what, I don’t think they’d like me very much, whichever party I joined.”
