Jon Hamm: I watch Colin Firth to help learn English accent

The Mad Men heart-throb is playing a medic in a new four-part drama, A Young Doctor’s Notebook.

The American star told how he is concerned about perfecting his intonation for his latest TV role.

And he revealed that he can’t stop listening to Firth. as he tries to copy his plummy voice. Hamm will need to make sure that his delivery is similar to that of Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe as they play the same character but during different years of his life.

Hamm said: “I have been watching Bridget Jones’s Diary on infinite loop, and I think I’ve finally got this accent thing sorted.”

Meanwhile, Radcliffe is delighted to be working with Hamm on the comedy drama, based on a collection of short stories by Russian playwright Mikhail Bulgakov. Radcliffe said: “I have been an obsessive Bulgakov reader for a couple of years now.

“So when the opportunity to become involved in this project came up, I could barely contain my excitement.

“The book is funny, grotesque and heartfelt in equal measure and I look forward to working with a great group of people to help bring it to life.”

The series will incorporate some dark humour as the doctor attempts to overcome self-doubts.

A Young Doctor’s Notebook will broadcast on Sky Arts next year.
