And in a thinly-veiled dig at Alesha â€" who waltzed off the BBC1 ballroom contest for a judging spot on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent â€" he said ballerina Darcey Bussell was a “fantastic” replacement.

He told TV Biz: “I saw Alesha on BGT. She did really well. However, I don’t think she will be a big miss, really.

“I am very excited about Darcey Bussell. She is probably the most famous dancer in the country and is going to be on the panel judging us, which is fantastic.”

Brendan is still waiting to sign up for the tenth series of Strictly.

And the “bad boy of ballroom”, who fell out with his celebrity partner Lulu last year, added: “I don’t know why I have that nickname. I’m such a nice person on the telly with my partner.

“I’ve had a great couple of years. I don’t think I’ve had an argument in the last four years â€" I don’t talk about Lulu â€" I mean in the years before that.”

Brendan is fronting the Flora Pro.active Swing Into Action campaign. He has created a dance designed to help people lower their cholesterol.
