Chris Evans may have his £12,000 per episode of The One Show cut as BBC plan to halve show to 30 minutes

He currently pockets around £12,000 per episode for BBC1’s hour-long magazine show, which he co-hosts with Alex Jones.

But channel bosses are looking at shrinking it to just 30 minutes and moving the show’s hour-long episode to a Wednesday night to boost their mid-week schedule when ITV shunts Coronation Street to the same evening in the autumn.

Corrie’s current Thursday episode will change nights when ITV1’s Champions League football moves from a Wednesday to a Tuesday.

Wednesday has traditionally been a weak night for BBC1 because it has no EastEnders that night and bosses fear ratings could be hit by the ITV1 footie.

Channel controller Danny Cohen is considering options, including moving the hour-long Friday night One Show to a Wednesday. But Radio 2 breakfast host Evans would not move with it â€" leaving regular frontman Matt Baker to present with Alex.

A source said: “Moving the Friday episode to a Wednesday would see Chris’s work cut in half so his pay would reflect that.”

A BBC source said talks with Evans would take place if the move is confirmed.
