Cheryl Cole is best dancer in pop says ex-Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips

The former Strictly Come Dancing judge and director of dance troupe Hot Gossip championed Cheryl after she mimed along on The Voice to the Geordie’s hit Call My Name.

Cheryl’s love of miming and using an autotune to boost her voice had made her a questionable choice to perform at last night’s Diamond Jubilee concert in front of Buckingham Palace.

But Arlene insists Cheryl succeeds where other pop stars fail.

She said: “People just don’t give Cheryl the credit for the fact she can dance. Not all pop stars can dance but she has the ability to lead her own video.”

Arlene even believes Cheryl could have been a famous ballerina if she had kept up her training after showing huge promise as a child dancer.

She said: “Cheryl was a scholarship girl at the Royal Ballet summer school, aged nine, which you only get if you’ve got a beautiful physique, beautiful feet and turned out legs.

“Had she worked and continued to train she could have been a sensational dancer.”

She added: “She’s also cute and adorable.”

Arlene was speaking during the Jubilee celebrations â€" where she also let drop that she fancies being made a Dame.

She said: “I have done loads of things for dance â€" so time for my Dameship. Dame Arlene sounds right.

“I’ve got an OBE so I’m on my way. I am climbing the greasy pole â€" perhaps I should just hang upside down on it.”
