The production, which organisers describe as âa nostalgic interactive jukeboxâ, will feature singers, dancers, a live band and archive footage.
The show, produced by the team behind the Michael Jackson musical Thriller â" Live, opens in Eastbourne in October before a UK tour which includes performances in Birmingham, Liverpool, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
There will also be a performance in Manchester â" where the show began in a disused church in 1964.
Director and choreographer Gary Lloyd said: âAs a charts follower, Top Of The Pops was the highlight of my week, I think this is a dream show to work on.
âI am looking forward to getting it out there to all those people who did the same and taking them on a rockinâ journey down memory lane.â
The show was a viewing staple for 42 years until it was axed in 2006 due to falling audiences. Episodes from the archives have been repeated on BBC4 and it is revived annually for a Christmas Day edition.
