Holly Walsh: My boyfriend has Olympic tickets, so he’s a keeper

Holly Walsh: My boyfriend has Olympic tickets, so he’s a keeper

But it’ll take a special kind of activity to get her to devote to you for a given time.

Table tennis tickets, for example.

“I’m off to see the semi final at the Olympics,” she says. “But my boyfriend got the tickets, so I’ve sort of got to stay with him until then.”

And if you haven’t got Olympic tickets to offer, simply tempting the comic with a DVD marathon could do the trick, as long as you can see it through to the end.

She adds: “People don’t talk about it much but you’ve really got to think about how much you can commit to that person when you start watching a box set with them. It’s a big thing.”

One of the more recent big things to happen to the 8 Out of 10 Cats star was a phat fall, during a Worthing Bird championships for CBBC.

The funnywoman dislocated a shoulder and broke an arm.

She turned the ordeal into a one-woman comedy show Hollycopter, which was nominated for the Fosters Edinbrgh Comedy Award last August.

But now she’s ready to ‘put the show to bed’ as they say.

She says: “It was really good therapy, but I feel different about the accident now, so I don’t really want to keep talking about it.

“My arm’s alright, but a bit bent. I’ve got a pretty cool scar.

And â€" in a weird way â€" Holly is grateful for the mishap.

“At least I could write an Edinburgh show about it. If I’d just fallen off my bike I couldn’t have done an hour on that.

“I’m going to have to take up roller skating or something so I can have another accident.”

Hollycopter ... Holly Walsh's award-winning Edinburgh show in 2011 Accident or otherwise, Holly hasn’t had time to work on her stand-up, as she’s been busy getting the sitcom Dead Boss made.

“I wrote it with Sharon Horgan, who co-wrote Pulling,” says Holly.

“It’s about a woman falsely imprisoned for killing her boss. But she has to prove her innocence â€" it’ a bit of a tragi-comedy.

“Sharon is the lead, we’ve got Jennifer saunders, Miranda Richardson, Carl Barat from the Libertines.

“Caroline Quentin, John Sessions and loads of other brilliant people. We spent a long time casting.

“It’s really great having big names but they’re there because they’re brilliant at their job, more than anything.”

But while having your own sitcom made is many a comedian’s dream, there are some responsibilities that you cannot prepare for.

Like the colour of the dish cloths, for example.

Holly says: “You’ll get a phone call, like ‘what pattern should be on the tea towel?’ and you’re thinking ‘I’ve no idea!’ but it’s amazing what detail they need to go into to make a joke work on screen.

“Then I’m like ‘I don’t know what type of penguin was in the zoo, isn’t there a standard penguin?’

“Apparently there are many different types.”

Holly Walsh performs Hollycopter at Soho Theatre on 22nd and 23rd June. See sohotheatre.com.

Dead Boss airs on BBC Three from 14 June.
