Watchdogs revealed a flood of viewers have complained that the commercial trivialises TERRORISM.

Despite the tubby tenor being voted the most irritating character in adverts, scores claim they were shocked to see BBC sports presenter Sue, 56, training a giant bazooka on him.

It is only after the singer seemingly gets blown to smithereens that she reveals herself to be the mystery assassin â€" by tearing off the balaclava of her terrorist-style garb.

The annoying opera singer â€" played by real-life tenor Wynne Evans, 40, and named Gio Compario â€" DOES survive to assault viewers’ ears another day.

He crawls frazzled from the huge crater that has been left behind by the explosion. But that has not stopped viewers flocking to blast the commercial as in poor taste.

The Advertising Standards Authority confirmed: “We have received a total of 43 complaints so far. Some people think it offensive especially at a time when children are watching. Others think it inappropriate when our security forces are coming under fire on a daily basis.”

The assassination bid is meant to be a riposte to the insurance comparison site’s star being voted the most irritating ad character on telly.

But it went out on Monday night â€" just as the Government announced the positioning of anti-aircraft batteries around London to combat terrorist attacks during the Olympics.

The Advertising Standards Authority said: “As with all complaints we are looking into the matter before deciding if we launch a full investigation.”
