In The Invisible Wounded, a series commissioned for Sky 1, he will look at the harrowing effects of post-traumatic stress disorder in the Armed Forces.

Ross said: “For more than a decade we have seen the very visible scars war has had on our troops and support workers.

“The haunting trauma of war can be carried by these people for years.

“I hope this documentary will go some way to address the issues, stigmas and the ways in which we can help those suffering, safeguarding them for the future.”

His Extreme World show has also been recommissioned.

Ross said: “We felt the first series was pretty groundbreaking.

“I think there’s a lot of dumbing down in terms of what current affairs are about.”
