Filming starts for second series of Call The Midwife

In new pics from filming of the upcoming second series, cast members can be seen looking on desperately as a fire rips through England's first council estate.

The storyline sees Jessica Raine, who plays Jenny Lee in the hit BBC1 show, rescue a baby from the Shoreditch blaze.

Call the Midwife is based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth, and follows the lives of a group of midwives in London’s East End in the 1950s.

Jennifer died last year, having sold more than a million copies of her books.

The second series is expected to air in 2013.
