Black Eyed Peas star Will.i.am admits he can’t sing and has to use autotune

The Black Eyed Peas star â€" who has spent the past ten weeks judging singers on the BBC1 show â€" confessed he depended on autotune technology.

Will revealed his secret while filming Alan Carr’s Chatty Man, to be screened tonight.

Funnyman Alan had teased him by talking down the autotune microphone he was using, cracking up the audience. Sheepish Will, 37, protested: “I’m working on my singing abilities.”

The rapper, writer and producer added: “I like staying in the studio. The computer allows me to make music, sing it myself, and not wait around for a singer to come along and sing the songs.

“The computer allows me to execute a lot of my ideas at the speed that I think them so that’s why I lean to the autotune.”

Camp Alan ribbed him some more by introducing him to “The Voice drinking game” â€" where you neck a shot every time Will uses one of his favourite words, “dope”. Will then insisted he would keep tweeting throughout The Voice because it was the way of the future, but said he would try to keep it off-camera if possible.

Asked if he followed rival show guru Simon Cowell on Twitter, straight-faced Will quipped: “He’s dope.”
