Nigel Havers relies on his wife giving him daily supplements and says 'they seem to be doing the trick'
Actor Nigel Havers, 60, takes our health quiz...
ANY INJURIES?
I broke my wrist during the filming of Chariots Of Fire in 1981. We had to learn to race over hurdles and one day I was showing off to my fellow actor Ben Cross.
I got so wrapped up in what I was doing, I stuck my arm down at the wrong moment, dislocated my shoulder and broke my wrist. The shoulder injury was too obvious to cover-up, but I didnât tell anyone about the wrist because I was terrified they would replace me. I got away with it and the wrist healed on its own but itâs still a bit wonky.
DID YOU KEEP UP RUNNING AFTER THE FILM?
Yes. I run four or five miles as often as I can - ideally every day. I got into running when making Chariots Of Fire and have kept it up ever since. At the gym I do stretches, sit-ups and weights for my arms and upper body.
EVER DIETED?
Iâm pretty much a natural dieter. I rarely have more than a sandwich at lunchtim e otherwise I get too sleepy in the afternoon. I eat healthily - lean meat, fish and lots of fruit and vegetables and I donât bother with desserts. As a result Iâm 5ft 11in and weigh 10st 10lb.
ANY VICES?
I donât smoke and donât drink much any more, but I do love chocolate. Absolutely adore it.
DO YOU WORRYÂ ABOUT AGEING?
I used to be terrified and in denial about it. Not any more. Now Iâm too old to care. Also, thereâs absolutely nothing you can do, so whatâs the point in worrying?
POP ANY PILLS?
Vitamins and supplements every day. My wife, Georgiana, dispenses them for me every morning and, like a little child, I take as instructed. Donât ask me what they are or what theyâre for but they seem to be doing the trick.

Nigel Havers has returned to Coronation Street playing Lewis Archer. Shown here having a fight with David Platt, played by Jack P Shepherd
EVER HAD SURGERY?
When I was about 20. I discovered a lump in my neck to the right of my Adamâs apple. I went to the doctors and the next day was in hospital having it removed. I was told the lump might be malignant in which case Iâd need more surgery and there was a danger I could lose my voice box. Not the best news - Iâd just started out as an actor. Fortunately, the lump was benign. Â
SLEEP WELL?
Like a log. I try to get eight hours a night and I can always tell when Iâve had less than that.
HOW DO YOU RELAX?
Thereâs an element of stress in the lives of everyone but fortunately itâs never been a problem for me. I play a bit of golf, garden, cook, watch TV... but my favourite way of relaxing is just spending time with my wife. Thatâs when Iâm at my happiest.
